WIC PROGRAM (Women, Infants, and Children)
WIC is a federally funded supplemental food and nutrition education program for women (pregnant, breastfeeding or up to 6 months postpartum), infants and children to the age of five that provides vouchers for nutritious foods, nutrition counseling, and referrals to health care. At WIC clinics, each participant is issued a set of checks listing certain foods for that month. The checks are redeemed at local stores contracted to accept WIC checks. By providing some of the foods needed daily for good health, WIC can help you stretch your food budget. Nutritionist at the WIC clinic can help you plan healthy meals for your family, advise on infant feeding, children's diet needs, and the food needs of pregnant and breastfeeding women.
WIC also employs a certified lactation consultant to help with topics relating to breastfeeding such as nutrition facts, positioning, and returning to work. WIC has electric and manual breast pumps available for special needs.
Nutritionists at the WIC clinic can help you plan healthy meals for your family, advise on infant feeding, childhood feeding issues, and the dietary needs of growing families.
